What is Aikido?
Aikido (Japanese: 'way of spiritual harmony'), (originally derived from the Japanese Martial-Art: Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu) is a martial-art that utilising: locks, holds, throws and pins. The aim is to turning an attacker's strength and momentum against him. Pressure on vital nerve centres are also used.
Aikido is very different from disciplines such as Karate, Kick Boxing, Taekwondo, Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai and Krav Maga where there is emphasis on kicking, punching or wrestling.
By choosing Aikido don't expect to spend hours kicking bags or learning boring katas!
Aikido is versatile with flowing circular movements and you will practice a variety of differing attacks and defences (applications) during a typical evenings training.
Is Aikido for me?
Because Aikido is a purely defensive Martial Art, it is the preferred choice for many professionals who experience problems with violence in the line of their work.
The law is clear that you are able to defend yourselves from attack but only by using the minimum force necessary.
The police for example are taught basic moves that are quick to learn, but Aikido is equally suitable for other 'customer facing' professionals such as: teachers, doctors, nurses, paramedics, firemen, and others in public services owing to its passive but effective nature.
Aikido is particularly well suited as a self-defence for women as size and strength are not important issues.

Club and Martial-Art Training
Pinner Aikido Club London runs a mixed martial art class with separate changing facilities. The classes are quite social affairs and training partners are encouraged to help each other with fair practice and advice.
