Aikido - Giving and Receiving Energy - Aikido Articles

Aikido is an amazing martial art that was founded by Master Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). He was one of the greatest martial artists who ever lived, and also a man of peace. He taught that there is always a way to blend with an attackers energy and take control of difficult situations.

Aikido teaches you how to deal with any verbal or physical confrontation in a more harmonious way. This allows you to find the best possible solution to any physical, emotional or spiritual problem that comes up in your life.

In Aikido practise, you are usually either performing a technique or receiving it. In this way you experience both the positive and negative extremes of winning and losing. This teaches you all about the natural flow of energy, and how to accept what life throws at you. You can see this as life lessons that develop your experience and character.

It is important to attack your dreams and desires the same way you would attack on the training mat. If there is something you want to achieve in life then you have to take massive action and attack that goal.

You can be in either the role of the attacker/uke, or the defender/nage, on the training mat, or in Life. Sometimes it is important to attack, while at other times it is important to relax during an attack. You can allow it to happen, and then redirect that energy in a more harmonious direction.

You can either be pro-active and go for your goals in life, OR be re-active and wait for them to come to you... which never happens - Right?

So, if you are not attacking life, life is attacking you... and you know what that means. Life is constantly throwing difficult situations at you, trying to push you off balance and take you off centre.

When uke attacks the first thing you should do is breathe deeply and relax, allow it to happen. The next thing to do is stand strong, have faith in yourself, trust and believe that the decisions you choose are correct.

It is important to extent right through life, and keep moving forwards. Aikido is a template for life and life is a template for Aikido, so... breathe deeply, relax and enjoy your practise of Aikido and life.

Aikido is a modern Japanese Martial Art and is very different from disciplines such as Karate, Kick Boxing, Taekwondo, Kung Fu, MMA, BJJ, Kempo and Krav Maga where there is emphasis on kicking, punching or wrestling.

Aikido is an extremely efficient self defence (also as Self-Defence Women London) system utilising balance-taking and posture-breaking movements to achieve joint locks, pins and throws. It contains elements of Ju Jitsu, Kendo, Judo and other budo.

Aikido Classes are held every Tuesday and Wednesday evening at our Harrow dojo, and Thursday evening at our Pinner dojo in NW London. Pinner Aikido Club London is a part of the Kai Shin Kai International Traditional Aikido Association (KSK), which is a member of the British Aikido Board (BAB).

Aikido is essentially a non-violent Martial art system that encourages the avoidance of confrontation and harmony with an aggressor. The classes are well attended with Aikido students always on the mat and aimed at all levels, from beginner to advanced but everyone is welcome to come along regardless of fitness or experience.

Our Aikido students work at their own pace during the training sessions and no one is forced into doing anything they are not comfortable with.
Pinner Aikido Club in London can help you achieve self-defense skills, self-esteem, confidence, and fitness. Most of all though, our classes are fun.

You do not have to be competitive or naturally athletic to take part in the Aikido class. Learning Aikido is about self-improvement and self-confidence.

Regardless of your size, body type and current level of physical ability or disability. If you are looking for a healthier, more confident way of life, then the modern art of Aikido may well be for you.
